Topic title says it all again, mum's refusing to swap our cross trainer for the Roger Black Silver treadmill. I tried talking to her about swapping one for the other or rather, trading in the cross trainer for the afore-mentioned treadmill which got an excellent review in last month's Vision magazine from one of the readers letters, so how on earth do I get her to change her mind on this one? I bought the cross trainer myself, oo, about 5 years back instead of a hifi system, but what with one thing and another and with me being away at College for weeks or even months at a time, it didn't really get used much till I had two enforced gap years at home, but I don't like the general movements of the cross trainer. You're kind of stood up and cycling all the time. This particular machine exercises the arms as well, but I found myself collapsing in a state of nervous exhaustion after 20 minutes at the most on the thing. I joined a local gym for a while and tried out the treadmills there and they're just so, so much smoother, so much more chilled out than the cross trainer, I mean, you're just walking or jogging on this moving surface aren't you? so, how on earth, do I convince mum that it was me who bought the cross trainer I don't like, because it's big, it's chunky and awkward to use, plus it takes up an enormous amount of space in her room when she hardly ever uses it, with the acception of hanging her clothes on it, lmao, and I'd like to trade it in for the Roger Black Silver treadmill, which is tactile and as oppose to a touch screen/membrane pad, it has buttons as the controls, it folds up for compact storage and comes with its own transporter wheels.
Negotiating with mum usually winds up in a silly but fierce argument about nothing inparticular, it's just her being f***ing awkward. Help me, basically.
Jen.
Um, jen, hugs, you seemed to have put up a pretty convincing argument, giving lots of very good reasons why a swap would be a good idea. I'm at a loss as to why your mother can't see this as a good idea also. What are her reasons for keeping the awkward, bulky piece of kit you guys now have?
Hmmm! Probably money and just the fact that its good for me and the fact I bought the damn thing 5 years ago.
Jen.
But is it really that good for you if it leaves you that knackered? Yeah you should probably break a sweat if you are going to excercise, but near colapse is hardly a good thing I'd have thought. And um, five years is a long time. You said it hadnt' gotten used too much in that 5 years, so wouldnt' it be more sensible to buy something now, which is newer, that you'd actually use? Still can't see it. Seems the sensible thing to do. The advantages outweigh the disadvantages of getting the newer model. As for how to convince your mother of this, I really dont' know what else to suggest other than laying out the advantages of buying the new one. It seems to speak for itself Jen as far as I can see. I think the thing I'd do is have another go. Ask her why she doesn't want to get the new one,a dn why she wants to keep the current one. Counter it with an advantage of getting the new model. Also, as far as money goes, what kind of a price would you get for the current one you have, do you know? It may be as well to check out places like EBay and Amazon market place, stuff like that, to see what simlar models are going for. That'd give you an idea how much you'd actually need. If it's a good saving, perhaps this can be the deciding factor also.
Jen, how about telling Mum that the new tredmill would be easier for you to use because it has actual buttons on it instead of a touch screen and from what you've said, I think this one sounds better because it's newer than the one you got 5 years ago.
i agree with the post above. very much so.
Yes I must agree with Haromy. Its rare that we find things with buttons anymore!
Just go ahead and do it if its yours, an worry about the arguement after!
Wish it was that simple, but who's going to help me shift the cross trainer out of mum's room if I say, sold it on Ebay? Mum would sort of have to know.
Jen.
Your forgetting the smell of the new oil. It will add perfume to the room and has got to be musty with that 5 year old machine in it. I mean it's old, dust, and needs an upgrade. Plus Mom could always find the latest patterns of drapes to match the mod colors of silver and black, and better yet the new model might even keep you home and healther, because while it's new you'll probably want to use it once or twice and what could be better?
